Mac Dermot Clan Association is delighted to announce the dates and programme of the 4th MacDermot Clan Gathering and the first in Ireland since 1999. The 2007 gathering promises to be the finest yet, incorporating the most successful elements of the previous three events. Whilst we can't guarantee the weather we hope that the programme outlined below will ensure four days of fun, discovery and good company!

Programme of events

Tuesday, 31st July

  • 10:00 Registration and introductions

  • 12:00 Talk: The legend of Una Bhan MacDermot

  • 13:00 break for lunch

  • 14:30 Lough Key Forest Park (including boat trip to MacDermot and Trinity Islands and amble along the new lakeshore board walk)

  • Evening: Join in the final night celebrations of Boyle Arts Week

Wednesday, 01st August

Thursday, 02nd August


  • 10:00 Battle of the Curlews walk. A repeat of the walk led by Conor MacDermot in 1999 ending at the site of the famous battle.

  • 13:00 pub lunch

  • 15:00 Boyle Abbey guided tour

  • Evening free. We hope to have a re-enactment of the Story of Una Bhan MacDermot. If this is a runner time and location to be announced later.

Friday, 03rd August


  • 10:00 Visit to Coolavin. A walk around the grounds taking in the house (outside), the ancient ring fort and St. Attracta's Well

  • 12:30 Demonstration of traditional willow basket making by Mr. Johnny Hannon.

  • 13:00 Lunch at Clogher Hall

  • 15:00 Closing Session.




Price
The cost per person for the full event package is €200 ($260.00) or €180 ($235.00) for members of the Clan Association.
For those under 18 the price is €160 ($210.00).
Prices are also available for single day attendance and for attending the banquet.These are shown on the booking form.

Payment will be in two stages (50% deposit with booking/balance by end June) and can be made either through our PayPal facility or by cheque. email us if you have any queries which are not covered here..


Accommodation
The cost of accommodation is separate to the overall price of the gathering.
We have rooms blockbooked at special rates at Landmark Hotel Carrick on Shannon for €286 ($372.00) per person sharing for the 4 nights (Monday-Thursday incl.) Bed & Breakfast. A €30 ($39) supplement will apply to single occupancy.
The rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Bookings for the hotel are strictly for the 4 night period and should be made directly through MacDermot Clan Association and will be available on the booking form. There will be no need to contact the hotel for this purpose.

We also recommend Una Bhan Tourism in Boyle who can organize Guest Houses, Farmhouses and self catering for those who would prefer something with a little more local character or who might wish to stay in the area for a longer period. Please contact them directly and they will be happy to help you with your individual requirements.
For the purpose of booking we recommend that you contact Una Bhan Tourism directly at your ealiest opportunity in order to avail of the best choice. MacDermot Clan Association is not in a position to book this type of accommodation for you.

Travel
The nearsest airport is Ireland West (Knock) which has direct flights from the UK only. Aer Lingus and several US airlines fly to Shannon and Dublin. Car Hire is conveniently booked with your airline ticket. Please ensure that you make your arrangements in plenty of time.
