McDermott's in the U.P. of Michigan

Hi, I was surprised to see your reference to Iron Mt. I grew up in Bessemer, MI. and my McDermott roots are in Northern Wis. and Michigan. I wonder if there is any connection? My gr-grandfather was one Mike B. McDermott born in 1859 somewhere in Wis. He had 4 sons; William H.(my grandfather), John M., Ira B. and Ray. All lived in the Phelps, WI./Iron River, MI. area. Does any of this sound familiar? Please contact me at your earliest convenience, Bob"MAC"McDermott, email is mcdrmtt@worldnet.att.net

GGparents James Joseph & Mary McDermott

I would appreciate any information on James Joseph McDermott and his wife Mary McDermott. He was born in Ireland and was working as a machinist in Glasgow and then emigrated to Iron Mountain Michigan in the late 1890s where he worked as a machinist in the copper mines.

McDermott, was he involved woth the pony express?

There is a family story about an ancestor who was involved in some way with the pony express, in the USA. I have tried there home page and the Wells Fargo museum in San Francisco (on two visits). Has anyone got an ancestor with a link with the pony express. TIA John

Coat of Arms Variation

The emblem you see here is called the "blazon" of the coat of arms. The added heraldic information such as the knight's helmet, etc. is called the mantle of the blazon. This is including the motto(Honor with Virtue), the lion rampant holding the staff in the dexter paw. The blazon is the shield with 3 boars heads, three crosses on a red chevron. Check out websites for heraldic information of the exact meaning of all the symbolism. Hope this helps you. Write back should you have any questions. I'm sure you have had a number of responses from McDermotts worldwide already. Sla'inte, MAC

MCDERMOTT COAT AND CREST

Does the coat of arms and crest change from sept to sept and clan to clan?
The coat and crest that I have is similar but, there are vines and a knights head above
the coat of arms and the moto in the crest. Why would this be different than the one I see here?

help me find my family

my father is Joseph Mc Dermott. brothers are frank, lesley,I believe there are other brothers. also the name Olive. The lived in Bermondsey, near the surrey docks at Rotherhithe. ears ago I believe someone tried to make contact with us, but we lost the contact.

I feel so linked to Ireland and it hurts not to make a connection to my roots. My family wont talk about my grandfather or mother and I have no idea why. My father Joseph married a Carroll who comes from the line of Coakley.
thankyou for any imput.

Magee
