Looking for Information and McDermott relatives

My Great Grandpa was Arthur Ray Ragan of Sumter (Americas) Georgia. He married s woman by the name of Maggie Smith and they had 3 children (that we know of). Walter Roy Ragan, William Arthur Ragan and Clifford Ray Ragan (my Grandpa). Clifford Ray was born on December 24, 1892. We are not sure how far back the Ragans go in the USA. Tradition has it that Arthur Ray Ragan and Maggie Smith (Ragan) both emigrated to the USA sometime in the early/mid 1800's.

On the other side of the family, Elizabeth White from Ireland (she reportedly lived sometime
during the 1700's) married a man with the last name of Shields. Their daughter Cecelia Shields married a man by the name of Dennis McDermott (both Cecelia dn Dennis were reportedly from Killarney in Ireland). Family tradition has it that they came to the US during the potato famine and settled in Baltimore, Maryland. They had 5 children: Joseph McDermott, Elizabeth McDermott, Leo McDermott (a fireman), Paul McDermott (a Catholic priest) and Dennis John McDermott (a lawyer and my Great Grandfather His law partner was Fred Richter in Norfolk Virginia). We have a photo of him in the YMCA Law Class in 1915. Dennis John McDermott married a woman originally from Spain by the name of Marie Magdalena DeCastille G. Leaming of Cape May New Jersey (born in 1879). Marie De Castille was adopted by the Leaming family. She was baptized on April 16, 1898 and had first Communion on Sept. 18, 1898. She died on March 4, 1932 at 8:15 pm. Dennis John died on Oct 28, 1929 at 4:25 am. He had been a resident of Norfolk for 35 years (since 1894).

Maria and Dennis were married in Philadelphia, PA. They had 7 children. Marie Eleanor born August 10, 1901, Elizabeth Celestine born May 19, 1903, John Dennis (also known as Jack) born Dec 23, 1908, Cecelia Gertrude born September 7, 1912, Charles Peter born August 30, 1918, Hugh Vincent born December 11, 1913 and Marguerite born Oct 27, 1905 (My Grandmother). Marguerite McDermott married Clifford Ray Ragan in the early 1930's. They had 2 children Stephen Paul (my Father, born June 25, 1936 and Dennis John (July 28, 1935). Jack McDermott was in the Navy and died during WWII on September 6, 1944. He's supposedly buried in Saipan. Clifford Ray Ragan died on Jan 31, 1949.

I am looking for any information on them (USA and Ireland), along with any relatives I have checked many ship passenger lists and have found nothing definitive so far. I would love to find out what ships they traveled on and dates they arrived in the USA, along with any cemetery or other information. Tradition has it that both sides of the family fought during the Civil War.

Any information you have would be helpful.

Thanks

Margo Ragan

Kilglass parish family #2

All dates are based on 1847 ship list:
Mary (?) Mcdermott, widow age 44, husband possible 'John'.
Children:
John, 13
Thomas,15
Bridget,11
Ellen,20
Mary,17
This family was from the same location as my first message, Ballykilcline, Kilglass Parish,Co. Roscommon. They left on the same ship, 'Metoka'. May have lived with the Michael and Ellen McDermott family once landed in NY for a time. The children of each family may have set off to 'see America' together also by the US Federal Census of 1850. The clue may be found in your records as a 'family relationship unknown' for a McDermott girl or boy. Another McDermott family (my line) landed the same month in NY. To see that family check the Family tree under Roscommon found on this site. 25 related McDermott's all from the same Townland, all landed within a month of each other and all from the same Townland in Co. Roscommon. Now, that is a rare find in family research! I have farm plot maps from 1836 for this group of 3 families, if they match your American side line. I have almost no information as to where they went or who they married after landing.
