I have just added new Members to the list, and corrected a number of errors that have come to light. I'd be grateful if Clan members could check their entries and let me know of any further errors...

Poem

Does anyone know of a poem called MacDermot's Dream?
I am looking for a copy. It is about a man who drank too much, I think.

Searching for my McDermott relatives

I am searching for any information someone may have on McDermotts from the Lowell Mass area. (may be Athol, MA) My grandmother was a Madelyn Griffin (McDermott). She died in 1949 when my mother was only 3. My mom does not know any of her relatives from her moms side of the family and I am trying to locate anyone with information or some ideas on how to try to find some of our family. I know that Madelyn had 3 brothers: Edward, Frank and John. She had 5 sisters: Elizabeth Gilbride, Theresa Mann, Ann McNamara, Helen LeBrie and Alice Brunelle. Madelyns father was Philip and her mothers name was Mary. I hope that someone reading this can be of some help to me. Thankyou. Lynn

Irish Fashions of the 19th century

If anyone out there can help me, I am the costume designer for a play that takes place in Ireland in the late 19th century. I am having trouble finding information about this subject. If anyone out there knows anything about this subject, the help would be a lifesaver. (Even if it is just recommendations of books I could try.)
Thank you,
Di

Patrick McDermott, County Mayo

Looking for information on my paternal great grandfather, Patrick McDermott, b abt 1855, reportedly in County Mayo, parish unknown. Father's name was Thomas. Namings patterns, from 1878 to date, suggest that siblings of Patrick likely named John, Thomas Joseph, James, Ellen, Alice, Catherine, Margaret and Mary.Griffith's Index identifies likely candidate families in Charlestown, Lavy Beg and Lavy More. Patrick left for Liverpool, England prior to 1878. He married Margaret Melling McGarry, on September 8, 1878, at St. Oswald's RC Church, Old Swan, West Derby, England. Patrick died in August 1924, at St Joseph's Home for the Sick and Aged (Little Sisters of the Poor), in Walton-on-Hill, West Derby, Lancs, England. If anyone is searching for similar naming patterns, or can tell me where Lavy Beg and Lavy More are on today's maps, please e-mail back. Thanks.

Link found !

Dear Nan

Whilst we have no information regarding the activities of
Patrick we can link him to the "Main Branch" of the MacDermot
family.

Patrick's father Thomas b.1803 Co. Sligo was descended from
Brian MacDermot of Lissaseeny, Barony of Coolavin, Co. Sligo.
Brian d.1746 was the youngest of three brothers, the eldest
of whom was Charles, Prince of Coolavin. Charles is the
ggggg grandfather of the current Prince of Coolavin, Niall.

You are therefore directly descended from the MacDermots of Moylurg.
Our common ancestor is the father of both Charles and Brian,
Hugh, Prince of Coolavin, Captain in Jacobite Army, d.1707.
Hugh's great great grandfather Rory d.1568 was the last MacDermot
to be called King of Moylurg.

All information relating to this notice is to be found in
"MacDermot of Moylurg" by Dermot MacDermot, Prince of Coolavin,
which can be previewed (and ordered) elsewhere on this
site.

Kind Regards

Rory MacDermot

McDermotts, McDermotts Roe, O'Connors

Whilst reviewing the February Notice Board I happened upon
your entry regarding tracing your McDermott line back to John
of Scregg and Drumlion.

Some further information relating to MacDermots Roe. Not only
did Matthew MacDermot Roe M.D. seek refuge at Ballinvilla, owned by
James MacDermot, but he married his daughter. Their son Charles M.D.
emigrated to Jamaica and founded a line which now stretches to
Canada and New York (including Galt MacDermot, the composer).

Matthew's older brother John was the convert to Protestantism, which helped
to preserve the lands.

The youngest brother Charles married Eleanor O'Conor. Charles' eldest son
also Charles whose Grandson John (born in Ireland) died in New York
in 1906, having been married to a Margaretta Cherry.

Hope some of this is new to you.

Best regards

Rory MacDermot

PS have you searched for Scregg in our Notice Board search engine ?
You should come up with a couple of other researchers who
might be able to help.
