McDearmon family

Dear Mrs Sutton

My mother's family are also McDearmons and descend form Michael McDearma Row who was listed as a headright of John Nash in Amelia county Virginia 20 Sep 1745. He first appears in the Amelia County Order Book 1 p.6 on 13 Feb 1735 as Michael McDearman Row. His Amelia will was proved in 1765 and names three sons Dudley, Brian, James and a daughter Judith and wife Katherine. Dudley and Brian McDearmonroe fought in the French and Indian War, and James died in the Revolution. Dudley McDearmon's descendants moved south to North Carolina and beyond. Some of Brian's family remained in Virginia, others moved to Missouri and eventually California; still others to Tennessee (nineteenth century Congressman James C. McDearmon).

I hope this helps. I think Michael McDearmonroe (d.1765)was a MacDermott Roe of Roscommen, perhaps with a father Dudley.

Yours, Peter Witt

John, Roger and Dominic McDermott

I am tracing my ggrandfather and his brothers. I am sure that Roger was his brother and reasonably sure that Dominic was also. John's tombstone states he was "born
near Boyle in Co. Roscommon". I have no other data on
that. John was b. abt. 1840, m. Margaret Dolan from Co. Cavan, had 6 children, d. Ohio 1881; Roger b. abt 1835, had a daughter Winifred; Dominic b. abt 1830, d. 1865.
According to Roger's naturalization record, he came to Ohio abt. 1852. Any and all help would be appreciated.

re Blighs in Roscommon

I have only recently found the MacDermot site. Regarding your message to MA Horn tre Maria Mc Dermott, Scregg in April of last year, I am particularly interested in the BLIGHs. I am researching the family of Andrew Albert Bligh, who was married to Mary Josephine Greally (or Grealy?),
whose mother was Mary McDermott born 1870 died 1942.

Mary's mother was Mary (Maria) Finner (I have no clue as to how she spelt the surname). Her Father was John McDermott.

Any chance of these fitting in with your Blighs?

regards

Richard Lodder

Mary Jane Mcdermott, my Great-Grandmother

Hi, I'm looking for information about Mary Jane Mcdermott.
was my Father's Father's Mother. She came to Boston some time
between 1870 and 1885. She married William Clarke who also
came over in the same time-frame. Unfortunately, I don't
have any other hard information. My grandmother, who NEVER
liked Mary Jane, claims there were rumors that perhaps she'd
been married before and might have left a family in Ireland.
Completely unconfirmed as is where in Ireland she came from.
Any help, as unlikely as it is, would be greatly appreciated.

I have come across a reference to a book entitled "A Topographical and Historical Map of Ancient Ireland" compiled by Philip MacDermott M.D., but have been unable to identify the date and publisher so that I can track down a copy. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.

McDermotts from Riverstown, Sligo

Dear George

It would be very likely, if not a sure certainty, that if your
McDermott antecedents hail from Riverstown, then you may assume
with confidence that they were descended from MacDermots of Moylurg.

May I suggest that you bring as much information with you and allow
as much time as possible, as it could be quite a long search ! But at
least you have dates, names and places which should make your task
that bit easier.

Look forward to seeing you !

Bookings for 1999 MacDermot Gathering - Faulty Booking Form

Our attention has been drawn to the possibility that there may
be a problem with the online booking form for the Gathering.

Whilst we do not believe that this is the case we would ask
anyone who has made a booking recently over the Internet and
who HAS NOT received a confirmation to contact us urgently
so that we may book you in.

Plenty of places are still available and we look forward to
receiving more bookings in the weeks to come.

Yours etc.

John McDermott and Mary Gallenagh of Co. Donegal

My 2nd greatgrandparents were John McDermott and Mary Gallenagh. Both born about 1840, marriage date estimate 1857, death date believed to be before 1900. John was a farmer, I don't have any confirmation where he was born. Mary was born in Holland.

John and Mary raised eight children who were all born in Ireland, probably Moville, County Donegal. Michael, Catherine, Hannah, Mary Ellen, Ellen, Bridget, James and William.

I believe all children died in Brooklyn, NY except for James who is unaccounted for.
