John McDermott from NY

I am looking for information on my great-great-great grandfather John McDermott. We don't know much about him, except that he must have been born early in the 1800's and came to America after the potatoe famine. He had atleast one son named Micheal Francis McDermott who had a few children of his own (including my Great Grandmother, who was born BrookLyn, NY in 1879.) Any information that could be provided would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Bookings for 1999 MacDermot Gathering - Faulty Booking Form

Our attention has been drawn to the possibility that there may
be a problem with the online booking form for the Gathering.

Whilst we do not believe that this is the case we would ask
anyone who has made a booking recently over the Internet and
who HAS NOT received a confirmation to contact us urgently
so that we may book you in.

Plenty of places are still available and we look forward to
receiving more bookings in the weeks to come.

Yours etc.

I think I am a McDermott descendant

In doing my ancestor research I found a birth in the Riverstown Parish records in Sligo in 1826 for my great-great grandfather Bartholomew Milmo. His parents were recorded as also Bartholomew and Elea. O. McDERMOTT. The witnesses were Thom. Golnicke and Anna Fahy. Son Bartholomew was listed in Griffiths in Kilmacallan Parish, Sligo, Townlands Rathmulpatrick and Drumnacool. His daughter, my great-grandmother Winifred Milmo[e], lived in Shancough Parish, townland Ummeryroe and married Martin Kearney. Can anyone give me any supporting information. I would love to go to your Clan gathering if I thought that I belonged.

Looking for John McDermott late 1800's

Looking for a John McDermott, that married a Margaret Mulloy Durkin. Margaret's husband James Durkin died in 1894 so she remarried this John McDermott after that date.
They had at least 2 children together named Peter and Margaret. We believe they resided in Roxbury/Boston area. Any info would be appreciated. Especially for Margaret's date of death or place of burial.

Passenger Lists - 1800s

I was researching and found a great site for passenger lists of some of the ships that sailed during the 1800s. I went through them and found all the listings of McDermotts (or varients). The list is too long to note here. If you suspect your anscestor travelled to the US or Australia during the 1800s, please e-mail me and I will be happy to look it up. If you wish to investigate on your own, here is the website: http://istg.rootsweb.com/1800/index.html. Goodluck!

Diarmet - IRISH?

I have been researching what I thought was a French surname, D'YARMETT in its present incarnation. One of your clan suggested that some of the earlier spellings (DIARMET, DEYARMIT, etc.) might be variations of McDERMOTT. Specifically I am looking for Daniel DEYARMIT, b ca 1795; native of Ireland and subject of the King of the UK of Great Britain and Ireland; emmigrated to America prior to June, 1812. Have not located his departure point or point of entry. He migrated to Ohio, USA, spending time in both Guernsey and Muskingum Counties; m Elizabeth Umstott 1819, had 9 children. He was a shoemaker. Naturalized 1829. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

McDermotts in Co. Leitrim

Elizabeth,
You say you live in Co Leitrim. Our family history says "Mark McDermott b 1810 was an oversear on the estate of Lady McNamara before emmigrating with wife Mary McDermott (same maiden name) and daughter Bridget, in 1852."
Is there any such estate or castle today to search estate records?
Myron

Hello Margie,

I just came across your message; I am currently a resident

If you would like any information re the name of McDermott, I

1636 McDermot

While working with the records in Kilglass parish I came across this: Books of Survey and Distribution, Vol.1, Co. of Roscommon, page 92 from the Robert C. Simington 1949 publication, "#8 Bryen mc. Dermot boy Hanly for him" under the 'porprietors names anno: 1641'. Question please! Was some of the Kilglass parish lands owned by Bryen mc. Dermot or was Bryen mc. Dermot the 'boy' that Hanly was acting for in this exchange of land to Wm. Dellamare. Ballymoylan is the town name of the lands.
