Thomas McDermott, Scranton PA??

6 years ago I gave up on tracing my roots, but today I happened to look at this notice board and thought I'd give it a try. My great gradfater, Thomas McDermott, was born in Scranton in 1865. I believe his parents were born in Ireland, but am unable to locate any further information.
His father's name may have been Thomas. However, I received information from the Lackawanna Historical Society, and there is a P.D. McDermott listed in the 1870 census. It lists him as having 8 children, four of whose names were Thomas, Mary Jane, Joseph and Anna. Any leads on tracking down the parents of Thomas McDermott would be greatly appreciated. See in all at the 1999 Clan Gathering!

Mc Dermotts, Mc Dermotts Roe, O'Connor's

I have traced my ancestry back to John McDermott in Scregg and Drumlion townlands in Killukin parish through the Tithe Applotment books. I am still trying to verify the Mc Dermott Roe connection to the Mc Dermotts via the family oral history that the Roe was dropped . I am looking for land or other records which might show a connection to Matthew McDermott Roe who married an Eleanor O'Connor.Because Matthew was dispossesed by a brother who changed religions, I believe Matthew may have sought refuge in lands owned by James McDermott near his residence at Ballinvilla, to wit Scregg and Drumlion, since James McDermott, Matthew's contemporary, was married to Eleanor O'Connor's sister Anne. In other words his sister in laws husband found them a place to live. ( a guess) This being in the time frame 1765-1790. We know that Eleanor and Matthew had 3 children Charles, Henry, and Mary. I believe Charles was either John McDermott's father or grandfather and Matthew either John's Grandfather or great grandfather. It is possible that the Roe was dropped due to
insult or disdain.
Any ideas on records to search.1765-1835.

Still looking for New York/Ontario McDermotts

I am still looking for siblings/cousins/anyone who might be related to my ggrandfather Lawrence Andrew McDermott, who was born in 1838 and died in 1875 in "the conductor's car" of a train near Port Hope, Ontario. He left his widow Susannah McCormick, children Josephine, Lillian, William and Arthur. Family tradition has it that he was born in Lewiston, New York. His family must have had some means as we have a diamond ring from that era in Ireland, and not many of those travelling to North America brought this kind of ring with them. Any ideas anyone ?

Thadeous McDermott and Mary Lynch

I am looking for information on Thadeous McDermott and Mary Lynch, the parents of my GG Grandmother Mary Elizabeth McDermott. I think they came from the area of Six Mile Cross near Foremoss (?) in County Tyrone, but may have been from the West Meath region. They would have been married sometime before 1846. they had at least three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, Catherine who married Peter McKnight, and Ann who died shortly after her arrival in Mobile Alabama USA That is all the information I have on them at this time.
Thanks.

McDermott, Corcoran, Tully

I finally found what appears to be my grandfather's parents names at N.J. archives. They are Patrick McDermott and Bridget Flynn. May be some connection between Bridget and my mother's ( Catherine Anne McDermott ) Godmother, Ann Catherine Flynn.
Could use any assistance available in family research

John McDermott

If anyone could help me find any information on my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather John McDermott, I would be most grateful.
What we know of him is that he was born somewhere in Ireland and that he had a son, Micheal Francis McDermott, who may have
been born in the U.S.(if he was, then it would have been in the vincinity of Brooklyn, NY). We really don't much about him.
Thanks

Spell the surname right in 2000!

The next United States Census will begin on April 1, 2000. The Federal government is currently screening more than 3 million applicants for the census-taker's positions. I do hope a spelling test is required! Most of you can guess that I will NOT seek a position with my spelling record! Ha.
Hope you are all planing to attend the MacDermot Gathering in August!

McDermott, Corcoran, Tully

In relation to my message in January, I have found some new names associated with my ancestors. My uncle Edward Patrick McDermott was baptizd in St Mary's, Plainfield, N.J. His Godparents were James McDermott and Bertha McDermott. They could be brother and sister of my grandfather Owen McDermott or brother/sister-in-law or cousins. Additionally, my aunt Brigite (Bridgit)'s Godparents were Charles Corcoran and Brigite Corcoran; maybe brother/sister of my grandmother Margaret Catherine Corcoran or brother/sister-in-law or cousins. Again, my grandparents were from Co. Roscommon. My g-grandparents were Edward Corcoran who married Catherine Tully. I also found my mother's Godparents who were John Gallagher and Ann Catherine Flynn (Flyn). Aunt brigite and my mother were also baptized in St Mary's, Plainfield, N.J.
If any relationships to these names please write to me.

Thanx much, Fred Anderson

Ref: Reply to Illinois Death Index 1916-1938

I am interested in locating information, possibly through the Illinois Death index--
My great-great uncle Patrick McDermott was born in Urbana, Ohio around 1860. He was the son of Thomas
McDermott and Mary Foy McDermott, who emigrated from Co Sligo, around 1849.I know that he resided in Chicago
around this time, from my great-grandfather Martin "Archie" McDermott's obituary. Patrick ( Paddy ) was his brother.
Any information or suggestions would be most welcome. Sadly no one knew what became of Paddy--perhaps some information
exists in the Death Indexes described.

Sincerely,
Nan McDermott e-mail: NDELLE McD @ wegtv.net

Help on correct spelling of name.

My mother's name was McDearmon, alway's pronounced McDearmott,
or McDermott, I tried to find information on McDearmon, have
not found any. My sister-in-law sent me some information from
England, about McDermott: ARMS-Argent, on a chevron gules, be-
tween three boars' heads erased azure, tusked and bristled
d'or, as many cross crosslets d'or. CREST: A demi lion rampant
azure holding in the dexter paw a sceptre crowned d'or.
Over Crest: "HONOR ET VIRTUS" By Honour an Virtue. Could any-
one help me find some information on McDearmon or the correct
spelling. Would very much appreciate it.
