I have some information regarding Mary Anne McDermott who died in Sydney
17.7.1898 aged 43 years. She was the wife of Dennis McDermott of Newtown
Sydney. If it is of any use to anyone I would be pleased to forward it.

If your surname research centers on Kilglass parish, Co. Roscommon a new
'mail list' is now working hard to help you. To subscribe send an e-mail
to the following address with only the word 'subscribe' in the body and e-mail
subject line. irl-Ballykilcline-l-request@rootsweb.com
As more US sites are adding a fee for information, the mailing lists may
become the only 'free' data on the net. Of course, this wonderful Home page
for all MacDermot's remains a stronghold! How about more postings here of
Family trees and 'found' McDermott surname information?

If there is anyone who knows a Michael Patrick McDermott, a graduate of Notre

touch. Thanks.

If you think part of the early McDermotts were in the US western state of
CA for the gold rush, you may find them at this searchable site
http://www.feefhs.org/fbvca/fbvca-tb.html I just found 2 pages of McDermotts,
with ages, who voted. Check it out.

Of the many great and ancient Gaelic families, only a handful have chiefs
recognized by the Chief Herald of Ireland. Of this select group, two belong
to this family, namely, "The MacDermot" who is chief of the name and "The
MacDermot Roe" who is chief of the sept which was the principal junior branch
of the MacDermots.
"The MacDermot" is, of course, Niall. However, the title of "The MacDermot
Roe" has been dormant since 1917 when Ffrench Fitzgerald, the last person
officially recognized as "The MacDermot Roe", died without a successor.
It would be wonderful to reinstate the title of "MacDermot Roe" after this
81 years of dormancy. In order to do so, it will be necessary to update the
family tree and determine who is the best qualified genealogically to apply
to the Chief Herald for the title.
In this regard, I would very much appreciate receiving family histories from
persons who are or think they may be MacDermot Roe descendants. Please summarize
your MacDermot Roe ancestry as far as you know it including dates. Each ancestry
will be compared to the available family records and research.
Since the appellation "Roe" was sometimes dropped, especially in the course
of immigration to America, the lack of a "Roe" at the end of the name does
not necessarily mean you are not a MacDermot Roe. Please note that we believe
that the following younger brothers of the last MacDermot Roe immigrated
to America in the late 1800's: Fitzgerald (born 1850), William Andrew (born
1852), Edward Charles (born 1853).
"The MacDermot" is aware of and supports the effort to reinstate the title
"MacDermot Roe". Please submit your family history directly to me at my personal
e-mail address. Receipt of all submissions will be acknowledged. Many thanks
for your help.

I am not a member of the MacDermot Clan, I come from the Dolan Clan. I am
in need of your assistance and I feel that all being Irish you will come
through for me. I am interested in 19th century Irish clothing. I am joining
a club that requires historically accurate clothing and I want to go as an
Irishman. Is there anyone that you know of that handles patterns of clothes
worn by men in Ireland in 1870-1880. If so, I would really like to get in
touch with them. Thank you very much.

Am looking for information about Cornelius McDermott, who described by his
son, "was born near Donegal, Province of Ulster". His tombstone indicates
his birth to be 1805 (died 1878 at age 73). Have church records to show his
marriage to a PA born woman, Jane Blain(e) in April, 1844. He and Jane had
three children-Mary Ellen b.1846, William James b.1847 and Hugh Charles b.1852
all in Harford Co. MD. Would appreciate learning more about Cornelius and
his family frior to emigration to the US and settling in/near York Co. PA.
Have records of owning a farm (in York Co. PA) from 1865 to his death in
1878.
Have also identified four additional male McDermotts (may be brothers),all
from Donegal, all born between 1800-820, all settled in York Co. Patrick
(b.1802,married Mary Ann Hurley in Ireland), Hugh (b.1810), Constantine (b.1816,
married a Mary McManus probably in Ireland) and Michael (b.1820, married
a Sarah Gillespie probably in Ireland) These 4x appear to be brothers. Do
not know if Cornelius is related... but too much of a coincidence to have
5x males, born in a 20 yr timespan, all in Donegal, all sail to the US and
settle within a 10 mile radius of Fawn Grove PA.
Merrry Christmas.....

There are many McDermotts on most of the ships listed on the Irish Times
site of: http://www.irish-times.com/ancestor/browse/links/Passengers.html
If you have not found the ship date, needed to add 5 years to for first records
here in the US, try every ship on this list. I found McDermott names all
over the place! Use your EDIT/FIND on the Word tool bar for fast searches
with each list.

i found your passage on the Molly McGuires very interesting and have been
interested in them myself for years. I am a frequenter of the Jim Thorpe
and often get strange looks (especially in my area) when i tell that it is
my favorite place in the world. i think rightly so. as of late, i have found
myself ensconced in a research / comparison paper about the Molly McGuires.
if you could supply me with any research / reference info. i would greatly
appreciate it, for on my own i am having great troubles. perhaps one day
i will see you in Jim Thorpe, my family is greatly appreciative to the
preservation of the Irish history that is preserved there, as it is rare
to find. We are Burkes from outside of Wilkes-Barre, a coal-mine ancestory
as well. thank you for your time and help, Dana.

There is a new (two months ago) CD-ROM set for all of Ireland for the 1854
period. The Index can be used free at any Family History Center in the
USA/Canada. If your family was still in Ireland 7 years after the Great Famine
you must check this Index. You will find the County,Parish, and townland
of the matching McDermott male. No, the women are not on this record, only
if they were widowed or for some other reason head of house. Remember to
check both first and middle names you may have, as only one name will be
listed.

In reply to: Maureen McDermott Humphries Ref: Co. Roscommon

that area. Any information you could give me would be greatfully
appreciated.

Looking for information on parents of James McDermott who married Marguerite
Clisham (possible Crisham?), father of James, Mary and Marguerite. James
emigrated to Philadelphia as a child with at least one parent, his mother,
possibly in late 1860s or early 1870s. All three of his children were born
in mid- to late 1890s in Philadelphia. Thanks all, and Merry Christmas!
