Several people have asked us recently when, or if, we will
be able to offer members the facility to pay subscriptions
or to buy products via a secure server.
Plans are at an early stage to develop the "Gift Shop" in order
to be able to offer a wider range of MacDermot gift items. We
should be in a position to provide an online payments facility
during 1999.
More details later.

Does anyone have one Andrew Lawrence or Lawrence Andrew McDermott on their
tree ? He was born in 1838 in Lewiston, New York, just across the border
from Niagara Falls. He worked on the railroad in Canada and died suddenly
in December of 1875 at the age of 37, leaving a widow and 4 children. He
was somehow connected to the United States, New York we think, because all
of the supplies for the house that was built in Port Hope, Ontario, came
from there. As well, Andrew has passed on a distinctive ring with .25 carat
diamonds on it, and not many Irish settlers brought that kind of loot with
them. My 3rd cousin has it right now. I can't find any records on him that
would help us locate from whence he came. Any help appreciated.

I am looking for information on Thadeous McDermott and Mary Lynch, the parents
of my GG Grandmother Mary Elizabeth McDermott. I think they came from the
area of Six Mile Cross near Foremoss (?) in County Tyrone, but may have been
from the West Meath region. They would have been married sometime before
1846. That is all the information I have on them at this time.
Thanks.

I would like more information about Jonathan McDermeit
and his possible connection to the McDermott's of Jamaica
in the early 1800's.
Information I have from the book cited below
mentions an oral tradition that Jonathan McDermeit may
have had connections to the following who have records
in Jamaica in the early 1800's:
Peter (died 1807-1809), St Mary's Parish Jamaica
Terence, listed as executor of Peter's will and of "the Trust"
Bernard, listed as executor of Peter's
Peter (Peter Wilson?) whose estate inventory was filed
by his widow Sarah 5 Apr 1826. Eldest brother of John
John, Peter's brother who died in 1814-possibly Jonathan's
father.
Family history states that Jonathan's parents were John
and Suzanna, and Jonathan was born in Baltimore County,MD
in 1827. He died in Henderson County, IL in 1868. Tradition
also states that Jonathan visited his father in Jamaica.
John is said to have been a Tory who escaped with Gen. Gage's
troops (no evidence of this) and settled in Jamaica as a
coffee planter.
The spelling of his name has been consisent
through my husband's family, and apparently is the only
family with that spelling.
This information is from:
Eagan, Colleen McConnell. "James McConnell(ca. 1715-1764) of Sherman's Valley,
Tyrone Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and his many descendants".
(LOC Cat# 94-72975). The Gregath Publishing Company, Wyandotte, OK 1994.

I must apologise if I have offended Dorian Cushing but I was somewhat bemused
and sidetracked by the golfing bit and quite unaware of the
O'Mullaney connection. Sorry Dorian and to you any other O'Mullaney's out
there who by now must
grinding their teeth, sharpening their swords, polishing their clubs and
thirsting for my blood,
, as I said, I stand thoroughly corrected. Hope to see you all at the next
gathering. I'll
be the one cowering in the corner! Jo.

The O'Mullaney folks lived in MacDermot Country! Please see the 'To be MacDermot
or not to be MacDermot' in the Library section. The Mullaney's are welcomed
to play golf, but I hope some will 'go fishing' with us also! Hope to see
all in 1999!

I am, and I rather think others may also be, fascinated by
the last entry on this, the MacDermot notice board.
Have I missed some vital clue? I don't think so but I cannot for the life
of me work
out why having a "Golf Fanatic" for a husband should entitle
one to attend MacDermot family gatherings. But come to think of it
We have always been a most hospitable family........

Greetings,
I have been researching my Grandfathers'Family. His name was Thomas Francis
Mullaney(his mum was a Slattery). I am very interested in finding out if
any" O'Mullaneys" come to your yearly reunions. I would like to learn about
my Irish Heritage. I am reasonably sure I could attend as my Husband is a
golf fanatic!Hope someone can help. Thank you.
