With regret, Pam and I announce that the McDermott North American Newsletter
is cancelled. Full refunds of those that sent in 1999 fees have been returned.
The reason for this decision was taken due to lack of subscribers for the
1999 pullication year.
We would like to thank all of the folks that sent articals to us over the
past two years. Please continue to send your fine work to the MacDermott
Clan Association in Ireland.
We hope to see you all in Boyle, August 1999!

I have traced my Macdermott's back through Buckinghamshire
to Exeter in Devon, circa 1795... Is anybody else
reasearching the same line...?

A new username and password system will be available within
the next few days in order to allow non members of the MacDermot
Clan Association to gain access to this valuable archive
material. Access will be free of charge but in order to ensure
that users are genuine researchers you will need to apply to
the Clan Association for your username and password.
We hope that in this way to arrive at an acceptable compromise
between the right to freedom of information and the right of
the individual to privacy.
Please note that existing members of the Clan Association need
simply use their own username and password to access this part
of the site.
Access to The MacDermot Directory/Register is restricted to
members only.

Am searching for information re: gr-grandfather Thomas L.
McDERMOTT (b. Lafayette Co. WISC 1840, resided Galena IL
circa 1842-1910) and his father Michael McDERMOTT (b. ~1815-
1820 unknown locale Ireland) and mother, Mary KELLY
(possibly Kelsy). Found a Michael McDermott with
wife Ellen, 10-yr-old Thomas & 8-yr-old James in 1850 Census
for Galena, IL, but can't confirm this is right family
since death certificate of Thomas says mother's name
is Mary, not Ellen.
----------------------------------------- I wish to find an old friend from
school. Maiden name was Eileen Quinlan, born about 11-5-66,, graduated from
Midwood High School in Brooklyn. Mother's name was Gertrude Quinlan and brother
James Quinlan. Would like to get in touch.

Like Sheila, I am curious to the source of your information concerning
confidentiality issues. Having only the message board really limits the
usefullness of the site for those who are browsing. Why join? You will need
something like Kindred Konnections where people can do a preliminary search
to see if an ancestor is held within your data base. I am afraid that the
usefullness of your homepage will diminish as it stands now. Carol

I am disappointed that the family trees are now off limits to those that
are not part of the membership. I probably check the MacDermot page every
day for updates on the notice board and also the family trees. I know that
the family trees don't seem to have many trees added very often, but I find
it useful to go back and review them when I have received additional information
on my McDermotts. I really don't understand what the problem was with privacy.
Were there a lot of complaints? Was this a problem that only affected a very
small part of the list? It seems to me there is greater good by having these
trees available to all. I know I can access them by paying my membership
fee, but frankly I am getting tired of have to pay my way through various
internet sites for genealogical information.

Iam of to Eilat soon for 7 days. Can any clan member who
has been there give me any information with regards the
place.
I thank you in advance for yoyr help.

Read your message and you said your grandfather was
born in Bradford, was that Bradford, PA or Bradford
England?
-----------------------------------------
It has been brought to our attention on more than one occasion
information held within our online Family Tree archive might
contain sensitive information; to whit, names of individuals
still extant who may not have given permission to have their
names included in the listing to which they are electronically
attached.
Whilst it is our opinion that this may be bordering on the trivial,
especially as addresses and other details which might make
it easy to trace a person are not given in this part of the site
we see it as our duty to protect the privacy of our members and
therefore have reluctantly decided to restict access to this
part of the site to users who are members of the Clan Association
and to those who have exisiting usernames and passwords for
gaining access to The Directory of Members.
We realise that this measure will restrict access to this important
part of the site to a relatively small handful of people. This is greatly
regretted by us all. But Membership rates are low however, so if you are
serious about research why not join ? (We have considerably more
information which has not been included on the Website.)
MacDermot Clan Association encourages the growth of our family
pool. The only way to do this is to create a more comprehensive
historical and genealogical clan archive. So please keep sending those
family trees. We will continue to include them on the Website
unless you advise us not to.

Our ggrandfather Peter McDermott, was born in Kiltrustan-
County Roscommon in 1832.
It appears- he joined the 88th Connacht Rangers when he was just sixteen
years old.
He died in London,England, date unkown.
Might anyone have a connection-or have any information
on the Kiltrustan Location.
Thank you

I have been hearing from many of the North American members regarding the
recent story in the McDermott NA Newsletter, 'It is a Matter of Privacy'
I did for the Sept. newsletter. All I can say is please use care when sending
anyone data on the living relatives. This privacy issue is a 'hot' subject
right now in the world of genealogy.
