----------------------------------------- I have just started researching
my husband's family and was
so glad to come across your page. My husband's great
grandmother was Letitia McDermott born 12 Oct 1887 in Akader
Iowa. She married John Leo Bride 28 Nov 1894 in Kingsley,
Iowa. Her parents were John McDermott born about 1800 in
Ireland. He died in a farm accident in Hinton, Iowa in 1884.
Her mother was Francis Burke, born 1840 Garry Town, Iowa
married 1863 in Akader, Iowa. She died May 1929 in Hinton,
Iowa. They had 11 children, 9 girls and 2 boys. The boys'
names were Joseph and Harry. The girls names I have are
Letitia, Elizabeth, Mary and Frances. I wish I had more
information to go on but that is all I have for now. Thanks
in advance to anyone who can help me.

Hi!
In my previous posting I left a letter out of my e-mail
address. sorry :-( It should be

Thanks to Maureen McDermott Humphreys for trying to contact
me and catching the error.

My g-g-grandmother was Roseanne McDERMOTT (1836-1861) the daughter of Edward
McDERMOTT and Katherine McGREEVEY. She was married in Castlereagh to Bartholomew
Thomas O'BRIEN and lived in Frenchpark. Their daughters Winifred and Kathleen
immigrated to Australia - and here I am.
Roseanne's siblings were Catherine (1832- ?), Edward J. (1843-1931), Jane
(1847- ?) and Stephen (1850 - ?).
I believe that her grandparents were George McDERMOT (died before 1846) and
Mary GUILFOYLE.
Anybody out there connected? I sincerely hope so.

My preferred date at this time is August 22,1998. I have a
Lyons family wedding the next weekend and would be glad to
have the excuse to stay East for an extra week or so.
The weekend would begin with a gathering beginning Friday
afternoon, tour of Montreal, unhosted dinner Friday night,
tour of Grosse Isle (a major landing point for Irish
immigrants to Canada with a high death rate from cholera)
perhaps Saturday part day, dinner/social event Sat. night,
and morning family tree workshop/brunch on Sunday with
farewells Sunday afternoon. Question: do people want to
stay in hotels ? In bed and breakfast ?
Outside the city ? Input appreciated.

I tried to send you this message with your e-mail address but go a bounce
back. Please e-mail me with your family early McDermott's. I am looking for
three families from Co. Roscommon, Kilglass Parish, Ballykilcline. Perhaps
I can find 'lost' Ballykilcline McDermott's. They all came to the US on a
state-aided emigration plan in 1847 and 1848 from the Lord Hartland leased
Estate.

I have a picture from the turn of the century of my great-grandmother, with
her husband's brother Leo McDermott and a woman described as "Cousin Agnes".
I assume she would be a McDermott. She never turns up again in any other
pictures or literature. I think this picture would be around 1899,1900 or
so.
There is some American connection between my great-great grandfather Andrew
McDermott other than his being born in Lewiston, NY) and others because his
children travelled back and forth to the US. Two of his daughters moved there
sometime early in the 1900s.
Does that fit with you ?

Hello.
I would love to hear from other McDermotts. I have tried to trace myself
back to the clan but so far haven't been able to identify who emmigrated.
great-great-great grandpa.
These pages seem great! I have a 9 year old daughter who is learning traditional
Irish dance. She would love to have an Irish penpal. To find a girl who was
also a McDermott would make her very happy. (hint! hint!) e-mail us at my
address.
Peace
Steve

I am looking for information on Col. Cyril Mattimoe (Ret)

is Pat. We are related through the McDermott side of the
family.
Thank you

I am a descendent of Margaret McDermott Roe who married John Mattimoe
(Mattimore). They emigrated to the USA from Roscommon at the time of the
potato famine. Does any one
have any information on her family or the Mattimoe family?
Family tradition is that the McDermott lineage can be traced back to Brian
Boru.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I am looking for information on Thomas McDermott. He was my ggg-grandfather,
and I don't have much information on him. I know that he married Lucy Jane
Coleman, and they were both killed in 1890. My gg-grandmother was born in
Oriskany Falls, Onieda County, NY. And I believe that they may have lived
in Troy, NY as well. My gg-grandmother's name was Mayme Elma McDermott, and
she was born 15 May 1872. When she was orphaned, she lived in a convent at
that time, and when she was 18, when she then moved to Seattle to visit her
cousin Mamie McDermott. I believe Thomas McDermott had a sister, Ann, who
moved to South Dakota.
I would appreciate any suggestions or clues anyone could give me. Thanks!

The book you are looking for is called "O'Rourke of Breifne" and was written
by Betty MacDermot, wife of the author of "MacDermot of Moylurg". The publishers
in Ireland were
Drumlin Publications Ltd, Nure, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim.
I suggest you write to them to procure a copy.
Rory MacDermot
-----------------------------------------
Does anyone know about the book about the O'Rourke's that was breifly mentioned
on this site marked "MacDermot of Moylurg" The Story of a Connacht Family.
I have been looking into all clans that were connected to the O'Rourke's,
which is why I have read much information from the Mac Dermot site. I would
like to know the title of this book and where I could possible get a copy
of it. If anyone knows of any other web sites, books, or anything that may
be of some interest to me then please let me know. Thank you.
