I am writing this in the hope that there is someone out there
that knows something about my McDermot family.
My G.Grandmother was chr. Anne Mcdermot in Jun 1827, in Kendal,
Westmoreland, England. Her father was Walter McDermot and
her mother Marg. When Anne married my G.Grandfather her
name is on the certificate as Anne Macderment. She married
in Sileby, Leicestershire, England in 1856 to Thomas Fisher.
She said her father Walter was an officer in the army. When
his records were found he was not an officer but a private.
He served in England, Scotland but mostly in Ceylon. He
joined up in 1820, and was discharged in 1841.
The papers say he was born in Crosserlough, Cavan, in 1802.
No other relatives names are on the papers. When discharge
he said he was going to retire at Granard.
Any help in finding information about this family would be
much appreciated.
Thank you, Kay

Just a short note to ask any MacDermotts if they could help
with regards the Family Tree. Having already a large data-
base of names with regards the Family (starting from the the
Brian of the Carrick chief 1585-92) , I am now trying to fill in any connections
from Germany & Australia & New Zealand. I have had a very good response
from Canada , while replying to Yvette MacDermot , so you can see that the
Clan
Web Page is a great source of info.
(my mother was Jill MacDermot/Cheesley)
Any help will be just what I need.
Just a short note also to find out if any one follows my
football team. Southampton FC(yes I do know that they are
not to great at the moment , but just watch at the end
of the Season) I would like to correspond with other followers.
Thanks again for any help if possible.

----------------------------------------- I am looking for information on
my great great grandfather
Alexander McDermott. He was born in 1798 in county Donegal.
The first information we have on him was in Saint John
New Brunswick Canada in 1840. We don't know when he
arrived here. Any information would be helpful. Thank you
Edmund McDermott.

Researching ancestry of John McDermott, my great-grandfather
who came to New York with his 5 yr. old son Patrick Francis
my grandfather. (In 1882) John was born Jan. 1841 to John
McDermott and Ann Deegan. He married Mary (Sara?) Jacobs &
it is said he worked with horses in Kildare. Mary was left
behind (in a workhouse? -- suffered breakdown after death of
5? other sons -- illness?) I found John & Patrick on the
1900 census living in NYC with Mary's sister Esther who came
to NYC in 1867. Census also shows infant son James born in
NYC in 1882. When & where did Mary die & who were her parents?
-----------------------------------------
This may be a duplicate (new to net & tried to send last
week, but don't think I was successful).
Mary was wife of my great-grandfather John (Joseph?) McDermott
She was left behind in Kildare (Roscommon) workhouse (nervous
breakdown?) & John brought their 5 year old son Patrick
Francis, my grandfather to NYC in 1882. Five or more other
sons died from illness within a short time period there.
I found them on the 1900 census in NYC residing with John's
sister-in-law Esther who came ca. 1867. John was a street
sweeper & Patrick grew up to become a hosiery salesman. The
census also shows a son James, born in NYC in 1882. (To John
and Esther???)

Dear Rory:
After much travail, grappling with a new computer and new soft
ware,I've finally succeeded in getting on-line.
One of my first acts is to send you greetings and all good
wishes to Ester, Francis and Emilia.
As soon as I recover from my descent into Cyber Hell, I'll
send some real news.
All best,
Gerald

I would like to make a family tree, but am having trouble tracing
my ancestors back to Ireland. My great grandfather Joseph
Augustin McDermott was born Aug 27, 1847 and died Sept 30, 1896.
He came to Canada sometime in between these dates. He came
to Battleford, Saskatchewan and married Sarah Linklater
daughter of William Linklater and Caroline McKay. He had 6
children: Mary Bella; Sarah Jane; Victaire McDermott;
Caroline Josephine; Charles William; John Joseph George
(aka Jack) my grandpa. If anything is interesting to anyone,
please e-mail me at ymcdermo@telusplanet.net. I have other
information also -- spouses' names, etc. Thanks.

I am looking for ancestors and/or descendants of Patrick
McDermott. He was born in Ireland around 1809. He may
have come from the parish of Anaduff, County Leitrim (or
possibly from County Mayo). He left Ireland in May, 1832
and landed at Quebec, Canada. He came to the United States
on June 7, 1832 and lived in Vermont and New York. His
naturalization records were recorded in Hudson Falls,
Washington County, New York on December 4, 1834. His wife
was Frances McHugh, also born in Ireland. Their first
child, Mary Ann, was recorded to be 16 months old on
Patrick's naturalization date. Their second child, John
Francis (my great-great-grandfather) was born in 1834. If
you have any leads, please contact me at jfmcdv@hhs.net.
Thank you.
