I am looking for any connection to my MC DERMOTTS who were
John and Mary. They arrived from Ireland via ship and
settled in Northern Florida (Walton Co.). My guess at a date
of arrival would be between 1880 and 1900. I believe that
the given name of Annie Lee may be that of either a mother or
other close female relative. They may also have had a
sister by the married name of Ida STANLEY who would have
settled in Florida at an earlier date. Mary and John were
orphans who were sent to America to be raised by family
friends. John was raised by an Aunt Gee and Grandma Campbell
who were sisters. The community that they settled in was
settled by Scotch-Irish. John was raised as a Presbyterian.
John was married in 1901 and died in 1930. Any information
would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Any information either of a general nature on the MC DERMOTT surname,
such as background of name, etc., and or information on my specific
MC DERMOTT would be much appreciated.

Hello,
Pamela Gibson and myself, Maureen Humphreys, are preparing to publish the
first issue of the
McDermott North America Newsletter. Members in good standing will be mailed
the newsletter
on or before October 1997.
The newsletter will contain articles on Genealogy research tips in the US/Canada
area, a call for
family recipes that have a short story around the history of the dish (we
would like one from the
MacDermott group too), Irish/North American history, and other subjects as
they develop.
We will send the first one out free with a section to be returned if members
wish to pay for further
issues.
We plan to send out issues in Sept. and March each year to those who send
the fee to me at the
following address:
McDermott NA Newsletter, 14079 Sunrise Drive NE,Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
This is a call for members input as to what you would like to see in it?
Please send comments to
me. Your input is most welcomed as this gets off the ground.

I'm working on the McDermott's that came to Virginia.
This is the information that has been handed down through
the family. The paper has been folded and photocopied, so
it's hard to read.
In the latter part of the 17th century or the first of the
18th, a couple by the name of McDermott got married in
(this part is faded and been folded on the orginal)
FIRTH OR/ON Y-T BAY IN IRELAND
They came to U.S. on their honeymoon, they settled in
Berkley Co. Va/WVa. They had 8 son's some of which were
Phillip, James, William, Dennis, John, and Owen. Their
were some daughter's but no names given. I know that
Phillip was married in Berkley Co. Va. in 1822, he had two
children John William b. abt 1828 and Sarah b. abt 1832.
Phillip was killed in boat explosion on his way home
between Pittsburg, Pa. and New Orleans, La. on the Ohio
River. John William , his sister Sarah and mother Rebecca
moved to Warren Co. Va. before the civil war. John William
named his son's, William Dennis moved to Tennesse, Charles
Lovell moved to Pittsburg, Pa. James Owen died in Warren
Co. Va. right before his marriage. Then my husband
anscestor Alcanna Booth stayed in Warren Co. Va. Any help
to firgure out where in Ireland they were married, would be
greatly appricated.
Thank you,
Esther Clark McDermott

My fathers name is Joseph Mc Dermott.
l only know some of the other family names.
Lesly was his brother. Other christain names were Ivy, John, Bill , Frank.
His mothers maiden name was Grainger . They lived in Bermondsey London. They
seemed very secretative about the whole family even to this day.
Any Help greatly appreciated.

Denise.

Hello Sharon,
I have just read your post about setting up a reunion in montreal
and I am just thrilled. If there is anything I can do to help please
let me know. Being in the Boston area means I am practically a stones throw
from you. Hope to hear from you.

I now know my g-g grandfather Andrew McDermott was born in Lewiston, New
York in Dec 1838. He died in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada in Dec 1875 at the
tender age of 36. My g-grandfather Arthur was born in June of 1875 so never
knew his father. Anyone having any connection please let me know at the above
email or at slyons@health.gov.sk.ca. I am currently looking for his birth
certificate in the New York Archives. His wife was born in 1854, and I assume
that they were married in the early 1870s. There may be siblings and I look
forward to making some connections, however distant ! Also Maureen McDermott
Humphreys and I have hatched a plan, in the very early stages, to hold a
reunion next year in Montreal or somewhere near there to attract the down-East
variety of M(a)cDermot(t)s and perhaps the overseas ones. Montreal is truly
a wonderful city, and planning can begin ! Unless others have a better plan,
or suggestion.
Am saving my pennies for that trip to Roscommon two years hence !

I would like to see your family secret recipes. I plan to collect them and
bring them to Ireland in 1999 for the next Gathering. Please add a note regarding
the history of how the recipies came into your family and/or you earliest
recollection of the food. If your Great Grandma made the best stew in the
world lets see the recipe!
Thank you in advance.
Maureen
